04-point proposal from BASL to restore public confidence & peace

The BAR Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has submitted a 04-point proposal on the urgent actions that are required by the authorities to restore public confidence and to restore peace in the country.

Issuing a statement, the BASL condemned the violence that was unleashed on peaceful anti-government protesters near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green on Monday, which resulted in widespread unrest.

The BASL said that it condemns all forms of violence and all those engaged in acts of violence must be dealt with according to the law.

The Association also noted the failure of the Police to take action to halt the mob that attacked peaceful anti-government protesters in Colombo.

The BASL pointed out that the unleashing of violence from the Temple Trees has further eroded confidence in the entire regime, including the President of Sri Lanka, and seriously jeopardized efforts to restore political and economic stability.
