1 missing, 4 injured & 12,000 affected as cyclone Burevi moves away from Sri Lanka

One person is reported missing and four others have sustained injuries in the Jaffna district after cyclone Burevi made landfall in Sri Lanka last evening.

Nearly 12, 252 persons from 3575 families have been affected in six districts in Sri Lanka due to the storm.

The Disaster Management Centre said 192 houses and 9 business properties have been damaged as well.

The Centre said 10,336 persons from 2911 families have been placed in 79 temporary shelters as of this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department said the cyclone which is currently situated close to the coastal area between Mannar and Pooneryn is gradually moving away from the island.
It is expected to move West- Northwestwards and will head into the Gulf of Mannar. (NewsWire)
