10 deaths reported due to road accidents yesterday

A significant increase in the number of fatal road accidents has been reported in the country once again, the Police said.

Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said 10 deaths due to accidents were reported yesterday alone.

Out of the deaths, 7 deaths were from road accidents reported yesterday. The remaining three were of patients injured in accidents on Wednesday (16) who had succumbed to injuries whil being treated at hospitals yesterday.

Pointing out that 10 fatal accidents per day were reported before the coronavirus pandemic, DIG Ajith Rohana said a similar situation is currently being noted at present in the country.

The Police Spokesman said a special operation has been launched from today to arrest drunk and reckless drivers during the upcoming festive season. (NewsWire)
