Delta coronavirus variant patients have been identified from samples obtained from Colombo, Galle, Matara & Trincomalee.
According to the Health Ministry atleast 13 new patients of highly infectious Delta variant have been detected in the country.
Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath said the patients have been identified in the districts such as Colombo, Galle, Matara and Trincomalee.
“Delta variant, the most transmissible variant yet poses a major threat to unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Adhering to mitigating measures until a significant percentage is fully vaccinated is important. The threat is not over yet.” Dr. Chandima Jeewendra of Sri Jayewardenepura University said. (NewsWire)
