The former Maldivian State Minister of Finance who was arrested in connection to the sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl in Mount Lavinia, has been remanded till the 16th of July.
The former Maldivian official who served under the previous Maldivian Government is the only foreign national to be arrested so far in connection to the online sex trafficking ring that was busted in Mount Lavinia in June.
He is among four suspects who were arrested yesterday following further investigations conducted into the online sex trafficking ring.
Police spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said apart from the main website used to promote the child for sex in exchange for cash, four other websites had also been used for this purpose.
Two suspects linked to one website were arrested yesterday, while the former Maldivian State Minister was also arrested after being identified as a customer of the victim.
Meanwhile, the manager of a hotel which had provided rooms for the customers of the sex trafficking ring has also been arrested.
SDIG Ajith Rohana said, a total of 32 suspects, including the victim’s mother have been arrested so far.
Investigations into the online sex trafficking ring is being conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department and the Police Children and Women Bureau. (NewsWire)
