15-year-old student takes life over mobile phone addiction in Matara

A 15-year-old boy has died after his parents had confiscated his mobile phone due to his addiction to an online video game.

The school student, who is a resident of the Rotumba area in Matara, had died by suicide after his mother had confiscated the mobile phone.

According to reports, a number of children in the area are reportedly addicted to a particular online video game.

Academic activities of schools are being conducted via online platforms due to the current coronavirus pandemic, due to which children are continuously in possession of mobile phones or computers. (NewsWire)
