Several health unions have decided to launch a strike action on the 9th of next month, citing several demands including salary anomalies.
President of the Government Nurses’ Association, Saman Rathnapriya said that 16 trade unions affiliated to the health sector will participate in this trade union action.
“We are putting pressure on the Ministry of Health to immediately implement requests such as staff service status, issuance of promotion circulars, revision of dates and special allowances given to health professionals” Rathnapriya said.
He further said that previously they wrote a letter to the Minister of Health on the 18th of this month and they were expected to respond within a week to avoid any trade union action, but haven’t received a response from the relevant as of now.
“The government has a responsibility and the Minister of Health has a responsibility to resolve these issues within the next week or we will have to take trade union action on the 9th” he further said.
Commenting on this matter, President of the PHI’s Union, Upul Rohana stated that the purpose of this trade Union action is not to fulfill any person agendas. (NewsWire)
