A 16-year-old girl from Badulla has died by suicide over the alleged sexual abuse by her 20-year-old lover, it was reported.
The victim is said to have resided with her 70-year-old grandmother, while her father had abandoned her before birth and her mother was employed overseas.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect had taken the victim to Kite Mountain in Badulla weeks ago and the victim had left home under the pretext of attending tuition class.
Upon returning home, the victim had informed her friend of the abuse via an SMS and had consumed medicines used by her grandmother over the incident.
The victim was taken to the Badulla Hospital in a serious condition where she passed away.
The Badulla Police has arrested the 20-year-old suspect on suspicion and he is set to be produced in court today. (NewsWire)
