Nearly 1900 persons have been killed in motor accidents reported during the coronavirus pandemic in Sri Lanka.
The Police said the accidents were reported from March, since when travel restrictions including the islandwide curfew was imposed for 60 days due to the virus outbreak, until November.
The Police have pointed out a significant increase in road accidents during the last few weeks.
Motorists and pedestrians have been requested to remain vigilant of motor accidents especially during the festive season.
Globally, about 1.25 million people die each year as a result of road traffic accidents. In Sri Lanka, about seven to eight people die each day, resulting in approximately 3,000 deaths per year, as per Sri Lanka Police statistics.(NewsWire)
