The Health Ministry has revealed that nearly 20 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds are currently occupied by Covid patients alone in Sri Lanka.
Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told reporters that arrangements have been made for 126 more ICU beds in the event there is an increase in Covid patients who require such treatment.
Among the 11, 575 beds in 70 treatment centres across the country a total of 8,188 are occupied by persons who had contracted the coronavirus.
Dr. Hemantha Herath said 41,603 confirmed coronavirus patients were reported in Sri Lanka as of last afternoon.
He added that among them, 37,350 patients were reported since the second coronavirus outbreak in October. (NewsWire)
