20,000 Israel construction jobs : Sri Lanka holds talks

Sri Lanka and Israel have held discussions on the testing process for job opportunities for 20,000 Sri Lankans in the construction field in Israel.

The matter was raised during a meeting between a delegation from the Ministry of Construction and Housing of Israel and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara on Tuesday (Jan 02).

Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said in a statement that the testing process, which will be conducted in collaboration with the Israel Builders Association, was also discussed during the meeting.

Representing the Ministry of Construction and Housing of Israel, Michal Aran, Senior Director of the Strategy and Policy Department, and Nessi Angel Katz, Chief of Staff at the Ministry, participated in the discussion. 

As per the bilateral agreement between the two nations, 10,000 Sri Lankans are to be sent to Israel for job opportunities. 

The first batch of thirty (30) Sri Lankans hired for agricultural jobs in Israel arrived in the country in December 2023. 

According to the Ministry of Foreign Employment, more Sri Lankans are to be dispatched to Israel for jobs going forward. (NewsWire)
