A SriLankan flight carrying 208 students who were stranded in London, UK, arrived early morning today.
The students and their luggage were disinfected at the airport and then were taken to quarantine centres by the Sri Lanka Army.
Majority of those who arrived had selected paid hotels as quarantine centers.
“Consequent to our offer of Citrus Waskaduwa to be used by the government of Sri Lanka as a quarantine centre, the government has decided to make use of the hotel to house individuals opting for the government’s offer of paid quarantine facilities.The first batch of guests arrived at the hotel today to spend their two week quarantine. Citrus Waskaduwa has thus resumed operations under the supervision of the Sri Lanka Army.” Citrus Waskaduwa, one of the hotel’s used as a paid quarantine facility posted in Facebook.
Rs 7,500 per day rate will be charged by hotels which will be used as paid quarantine facilities, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said yesterday.
A group people who didnt opt for paid hotels, were sent a Government run quarantine center in Diyagama.
Meanwhile, the SriLankan flight UL-503 left the BIA this morning for London Heathrow Airport to bring the second batch of Sri Lankan students stranded in the UK.
