Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekara says that 24 companies from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, United States, China, India, Russia, UK, Malaysia, Norway and Philippines have expressed interest in engaging in the Petroleum business in Sri Lanka.
He further said that a committee appointed by the Ministry of Power and Energy will evaluate proposals, issue Request for Proposals (RFP) & finalize the process within 6 weeks.
Meanwhile, The Sunday Times reports that Sri Lanka is considering handing over between 500 and 700 fuel stations for retail operations to foreign companies.
Under the proposed model, the selected companies would have to import and provide fuel while transport and storage facilities will be provided by the CPC, for which the government will receive a service charge from the said companies. (NewsWire)
