25 Sri Lankans reportedly dead due to Covid-19 in the United Kingdom
It is reported that the number of deaths of Sri Lankans occurred due to or suspected of Covid-19 in the UK has reached 25, while about 900 Sri Lankans are expecting to return to Sri Lanka due to the Covid-19 threat is worsening in the UK.
Speaking to a TV channel in Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in the United Kingdom Ms. Saroja Sirisena confirmed that about 900 Sri Lankans including Ph.D students, doctors who had come for further studies, those who came to the UK for holiday or travel purposes and who were employed in the UK, have requested the High Commission to support them in returning to Sri Lanka.
“They are requested for get registered in the website of the Sri Lankan High Commission to the United Kingdom or in ‘Contact Sri Lanka’ web portal introduced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The High Commission will intervene in extending visas for the stay and issues faced with hostels. The High Commission has and will provide dry rations to those who have no way of obtaining them during the lockdown”, she said.
She also stated that the information from the Sri Lankan Community in the UK have claimed that the deaths of Sri Lankans occurred due to Covid-19 infections has risen up to 25 as of now.
