Nearly 29 passengers have been detained at the Airport in Katunayake for the possession of a large number of restricted goods.
The Customs Department at the Airport said the passengers were detained following their arrival after having completed short visits to India.
The Department said 472 kg of Tumeric and over 350 kg of Cardamom valued at over Rs. 4 million were seized from the possession of the passengers.
Preliminary investigations have uncovered a racket of smuggling restricted goods into the country by way of short visits to India.
It was found that the individuals were posing as travellers to move restricted items into the country by concealing them in their luggage. (NewsWire)
