A Gazette notification has been published announcing that the Chairmen of the Weligama, Tangalle, and Nawalapitiya Urban Councils have resigned from their posts on their own accord.
The Gazette further says that as the councillors have quit the membership of the United National Party (UNP), they have resigned from their designated posts.
The court had last month upheld a decision taken by the UNP to take action against a group of party members who had worked for the SJB while being part of the UNP during the General Elections in 2020.
The Chairmen of the Weligama, Tangalle, and Nawalapitiya urban Councils are among those expelled from the UNP. (NewsWire)
