An underage child who was abandoned in a house without food by the parents has been found by the Police.
The child suspected to be over 3-years has been handed over to a Probationary Officer after being cleaned up and provided with food.
The underage girl has been identified as a resident of the Bakinilanda area in Matigahathenna under the Madulsima Police Division.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the child had been abandoned in a forest once before by her mother, while a case has been filed against the woman over the incident.
The woman is reported to have remarried when the child was 2 ½ years-old and had thereafter abandoned her.
The child’s father is reported to have remarried on multiple occasions, with all his wives leaving him and the child due to difference of opinion between the couple.
The abandoned underage child has been produced before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court, following which she was handed over to a Probationary Officer.
The Madulsima Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
