An individual has been arrested by the Wattegama Police on charges of killing a woman after attacking her with an axe on Wednesday (23).
The deceased has been identified as a 48-year-old mother of three from the Kalagollagoda area in Polgolla.
The suspect is reported to have transported the body of the woman in a three –wheeler for nearly 10 kilometers and had dumped the body in a forest area in Barberwatta, which was later recovered by the Police yesterday (24).
The woman who was unable to return home after attending a meeting on Tuesday (22) in her area due to heavy rains, had been taken over to another resident’s house.
The man who had attempted to sexually misbehave with the woman had attacked her with an axe after she had protested his actions.
Police investigations have revealed that the suspect had thereafter concealed her body in a fertilizer bag and had abandoned it near Baberwatta.
Inquiries launched by the Police based on a complaint filed by the woman’s husband reporting her missing, had led to the arrest of the suspect, who after interrogation had revealed details of the murder.
