The Police have arrested 3009 individuals, including 645 persons against whom warrants had been issued for various crimes.
Police spokesman senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Ajith Rohana said the suspects were arrested during a special raid conducted on Saturday (17).
He said 14, 927 Police personnel and 52 Police Headquarters were involved in the special raids.
Among the arrested suspects, 431 have been arrested on suspicion, 98 who have been accused of committing crimes, 1250 for the possession of narcotics and illicit liquor, and five for the illegal possession of firearms.
Meanwhile, 80 suspects have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Legal action has also been initiated against 5,654 suspects on charges of violating traffic laws.
SDIG Ajith Rohana urged those who have been issued warrants by the courts to surrender to their nearest Police station.
He said in the event they fail to do so, the Police will arrest and remand the suspects.
The Police spokesman added that the special raids will continue to arrest suspects who have been issued warrants. (NewsWire)
