Milk powder importers are to notify the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) of their proposal to increase the price of milk powder.
Member of the Milk Powder Importers Association Lakshman Weerasuriya said it has been proposed to increase the price of 1kg of milk powder to a maximum price of Rs. 1,300 and 400g packet to Rs. 520.
The Association has proposed a 36.8% price increase for imported milk powder.
He further said that this will enable local milk powder producers to sell their prices under their existing price.
A kilo of imported milk powder is currently sold at Rs.945 and a 400g packet at Rs. 380.
Meanwhile, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna announced that the new prices of essential goods, that the control prices were lifted, will be issued this afternoon. (NewsWire)
