5% : Minister Bandula proposes new monthly tax to operate public services during Covid

A 5% tax must be imposed on people earning over Rs. 100,000 as a monthly allowance in order to operate public services such as education and health during the coronavirus pandemic, Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana said.

Speaking to local media, the Minister proposed that the tax must be imposed as “Community Preservation and Contribution Fund” for the benefit of the education and health services.

The tax must be introduced without changes to the salary limit and only on people earning a monthly income of over Rs. 100,000, he explained. (NewsWire)
