7-year-old boy dies after being assaulted in kilinochchi

A 7-year-old boy has died after being assaulted by his elder cousin in Kilinochchi.
The child had succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Jaffna hospital yesterday (28).

The incident is reported to have occurred after the boy’s mother had placed the child at his uncle’s house, alongside the latter’s two kids, and left for Batticaloa.

Police investigations have revealed that the child had accompanied his elder cousin to a construction site outside his uncle’s residence, and was later found unconscious at the site by area residents.

The boy had then been admitted to the Kilinochchi hospital and was later transferred to the Jaffna hospital for further treatment.

The 17-year-old cousin of the child has been reported missing since the incident.

The post mortem examination conducted by the Jaffna hospital has revealed that the child had died as a result of blunt force trauma after being attacked with a blunt weapon.

The Kilinochchi Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
