President Ranil Wickremesinghe is making various attempts to delay the Local Government polls, National People’s Power (NPP) Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.
Addressing a public gathering, MP Dissanayake said the government is using various excuses to delay the elections, such as power cuts, and shortage of medicines if the election were to be held.
“They do not want to increase the wealth at the Treasury. If this happens they will be forced to hold an election. Therefore, they keep depleting the Treasury so that they can remain in power for a longer time,” he said.
Stating that the Parliament has approved holding the election, MP Dissanayake warned that it was an offence punishable for 3 years if the Treasury Secretary refuses to provide money for elections. (NewsWire)
