According to the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, nearly 120,000 persons in Sri Lanka are using Heroin.
According to Chairman Shakya Nanayakkara, Nearly 400,000 people consume marijuana.
He claimed that while there is an overall decline in cigarette and alcohol use, there is a rise in the use of narcotics, especially ‘ICE’
He added that only 90-100 people who use the narcotic known as ‘ICE’ had sought treatment in 2022.
According to Nanayakkara, the majority of heroin and marijuana users quit using the drugs without getting help. Only about 3,000 people can use the facilities at treatment centers, he added.
He pointed out that each year, there are also around 40,000 new reports of drug, alcohol, and cigarette use. (NewsWire)
