Sri Lanka Police have issued a notice to general public to refrain from illegal money transactions such as the ‘Undiyal/Hawala’ systems.
Issuing a statement, The Police note the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has observed that reduced foreign remittances is one of the main reasons for current economic crisis to intensify.
The Police have further noted that foreign workers are using several informal transaction methods to import essential and non essential goods to the country.
Therefore, the Police have requested the public to refrain from such transactions as investigations have now been broadened along with the help from CBSL officials and legal action will be taken as per the anti money laundering act. (NewsWire)
