The Sri Lanka Police has warned that legal action will be taken against those causing fear among the public through false statements via social media and other means.
Issuing a statement, the Police said that action can be taken against those spreading such rumours, under Article 15 of the Gazette notification issued on the State of Emergency declared by the Acting President on 18th July 2022.
Action can be taken against people causing fear among the public or publishing posts to rally the people and cause any incidents against the law, the statement said.
The Police further said its Cyber Crimes Unit has already commenced investigations against people identified as having defied laws as per the Gazette on the State of Emergency. (NewsWire)
