Acting President Ranil Wickramasinghe has instructed to conduct an investigation into those who are exerting pressure through social media to MPs with regard to voting in the election of the next President.
The Ada Derana reports that the Acting President has given this instruction to the security forces after considering concerns raised by MPs that due to various threats on social media, they are unable to vote freely.
Accordingly, Ranil Wickramasinghe has informed to investigate related incidents under the parliamentary privileges act and related criminal laws.
Further to this, he has also pointed out that MPs should have the opportunity to travel to and from the Parliament freely, and any obstacle is a threat to their parliamentary privileges.
Meanwhile, Police also confirmed that an investigation has been launched against those who threated MPs in Parliament. (NewsWire)
