Anti-government protesters had only entered the national television channel, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) after discussions with SLRC authorities, activists from the “GotaGoGama” campaign said.
They said the protesters had requested to share their views with the public and had been provided screentime of 15 minutes.
The protesters had behaved in a calm manner and had left the premises without engaging in any forms of violence, while the SLRC is back in the hands of the authorities and security forces, they said.
SLRC official said that a group of protestors who had entered the premises had demanded that they run only news related to ‘anti-government protests’ and entertainment programs.
The protesters had been provided some 15 minutes to convey their side of the story to the viewers, after which the channel suspended transmission.
However, the SLRC has resumed its broadcasting activities after the temporary suspension. (NewsWire)
"Until the struggle is over, the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Cooperation will only telecast programs of the Jana Aragalaya," a protester said during a live broadcast. The National TV channel is now off-air. pic.twitter.com/jsIcdnEyUq
