Former cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya says entering politics was the most idiotic and foolish decision he ever took.
Speaking during an interview with Sirasa TV, he pointed out that there was no need to have entered the political field.
“I consider it as the most idiotic and foolish decision I took in my life. I feel regret over such a decision. I will not enter politics again. It does not suit people like me,” he said.
Jayasuriya further said that he had only lost opportunities, such as missing the 2011 world cup, rather than gaining anything from politics.
Sanath Jayasuriya quit politics after 2015 having entered the parliament with the highest number of preferential votes from Matara.
Jayasuriya has been a key figure who is demanding President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s resignation over the Sri Lankan crisis. He has been very vocal in criticizing the Government leaders over the hardship faced by people. (NewsWire)
