Basil wants Parliament elections first, explains why

Basil Rajapaksa, the founder of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), stated that he would prefer the Parliamentary Election to be held prior to the Presidential Election in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to News 1st, the former minister expressed his belief that holding the Parliamentary Election after the Presidential Election would not accurately reflect the people’s reality.

He emphasized that if a candidate wins the Presidential Election by even a single vote, that party would likely secure a significant majority in parliament, as was the case in 2020.

Rajapaksa argued that for a balanced parliament, the Parliamentary Election should take precedence.

Furthermore, he firmly opposed any attempts to postpone the country’s crucial national elections—the Presidential Election and the Parliamentary Election.

When questioned about the current SLPP-led Government, he expressed skepticism about whether it truly represented the SLPP. (NewsWire)
