Former Sri Lanka cricketer Mahela Jayawardena has questioned the appointment of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, referring to an old video of Wickremesinghe describing politics as a game of chess.
The former cricketer said the Wickremesinghe’s majority in the Parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers he appoints will show if he is truly a Grandmaster or Master of Deals.
“@RW_UNP described politics as a game of chess and every move is important… we can see how he get the majority in the parliament and the cabinet ministers he appoint if he is truly a Grandmaster or Master of Deals! #Ashikland,” he tweeted.
Mahela Jayawardena has also previously called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to step down, showing his solidarity with the public who have been staging a protest at the Galle Face Green for months over the same demand.
The #GoHomeGota has been used by several key figures in the country, including Mahela Jayawardena to urge political change in Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
