State Minister Gunapala Rathnasekara has stepped down from his ministerial portfolio.
Rathnasekara served as the State Minister of Cooperative Services, Marketing Development, and Consumer Protection.
The State Minister confirmed that he has handed over his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, but the latter has not accepted it as yet.
Commenting on his resignation, Gunapala Rathnasekara said he is sure that he cannot carry out his duties under this ministerial portfolio.
“I took a personal decision to resign from the portfolio and handed over my letter of resignation to the President last evening, but he refused to accept it,” he said.
Stating that he had made an appeal from the President to accept his letter, the MP said thereafter he had handed it over to the President.
“I believe there is no social or political stability in the country at present for me to function in that ministerial portfolio,” he pointed out. (NewsWire)
