Sri Lanka heading towards anarchy, Cricket legend makes appeal from international community

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya has appealed to the international community to help the people of Sri Lanka achieve their democratic aspirations.

In a statement, the former cricketer also urged the government and politicians to produce a solution to the national crisis that is suitable for the people.

Jayasuriya has issued the statement at a time when an islandwide 24-hour hartal is underway in Sri Lanka today, affecting several services.

Full statement:

Today the entire country has been brought to a halt. In an unprecedented move, even routine private medical services have been suspended. This is probably the last chance that the government and politicians have to produce a solution suitable for the people. I implore you to do so. If the people lose faith completely in the parliamentary system then anarchy will take over. To quote Wiz Khalifa. “We never really learn from the first or second or third mistake . It only hits us when we are given the LAST CHANCE”. I appeal to the international community to help the people achieve their democratic aspirations. (NewsWire)
