Secretary to the Treasury and the Ministry of Finance S. R. Attygalle has tendered his resignation.
Attygalle confirmed to the media that he had handed over his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.
Attygalle was appointed as the Secretary to the Treasury and Ministry of Finance with effect from 19th November 2019.
He is the latest official from the state sector to resign from his portfolio, following the mass resignations of several ministers and state ministers.
MP Ali Sabry who was yesterday appointed as the Minister of Finance under the four-member temporary Cabinet too announced today his decision to step down from his portfolio.
The resignations of several high-ranking state officials come due to the continuous protests by the public against the President and his Government whom they blame for the failing economy of Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
