Public protests continue : Kadawatha gets tensed over Gas issue

People who were queued up opposite a LP gas dealer in Kadawatha staged a protest today (13) demanding the release of LP Gas cylinders.

Angry consumers blocked the main road and accused the agent of holding back the gas cylinders anticipating a price increase.

A senior police officer had later intervened to disperse the crowd, promising to release gas cylinders after checking with the dealer.

Earlier in the week, LP gas shortage was reported again as local commercial banks denied the issuing of LC’s for Litro gas due to the dollar shortage.

Litro announced that it resumed distribution of LP gas to the market starting Friday(11). However, an expected gas price increase following the fuel price revision has continued to disrupt the usual gas supply to the market.

Following the Central Bank’s decision to float the rupee, prices of many essential items increased exponentially, including a record hike in fuel prices. LP gas prices are also likely to be increased. (NewsWire)
