Minster of Public Security, Sarath Weerasekara recently inspected the CCTV division of the Sri Lanka Police.
The Police CCTV division was set up in 2010, when incumbent President Gotabaya Rajapasksa was serving as the defense secretary.
The main objectives of the unit is to prevent crimes and assisting in investigations related to crimes and other activities.
In addition to that, the CCTV division also engages in observing traffic related offenses. With current available technology, it has been observed that taking actions against traffic related offenses take a very long time.
To overcome this situation, the ministry of public security is about to establish a system in collaboration with Department of Motor Traffic and the Attorney General’s Department, where traffic tickets will be sent to the offender’s homes. (NewsWire)
