Among the assets seized from drug peddlers in Sri Lanka, those seized from ‘Dematagoda Ruwan’ hold the highest estimated value, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has revealed.
The CID said the total assets that have been seized from ‘Dematagoda Ruwan’ so far have been valued at over Rs. 790 million.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect had launched an illegal business after engaging in the sale of cannabis in 2011 and had commenced a large scale drug racket from 2017.
The seized assets, including 09 super luxury vehicles valued at over 90 million, have been registered as Government assets.
The Police have found three fixed deposits consisting of a total of Rs. 90 million, 1.5 kilos of gold worth Rs. 20 million, and three lands worth Rs. 160 million from the suspect’s possession.
Investigations are also underway into several hotels that had been owned by the drug lord.
It has been reported that the suspect had attempted to pay Rs. 50 million to CID officials urging them to halt the investigations that are underway against him.
Earlier, the assets that had been seized from Wele Sudha amounting to Rs. 180 million had been considered as the highest valued assets to be seized from a drug lord in Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
