The Government is looking into the option of Cabinet Ministers travelling to work on bicycles, Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera said yesterday.
Addressing the media, he said Cabinet Ministers are to consider travelling on bicycles to work at least once a month.
Minister Amaraweera explained that the move is part of an attempt to promote and encourage the use of bicycles by the public.
“The Government wants to set the example by encouraging Cabinet Ministers to use bicycles,” he said.
The Minister pointed out that, however, there would be several concerns, including security if Cabinet Ministers travel on bicycles in public.
Stating that the matter had been taken up for discussion during the Cabinet meeting, he said it is being considered. (NewsWire)
