The Minister of Justice Ali Sabry has issued a directive to re-submit an amended Bill on the Prohibition of Obscene Publications.
The Justice Ministry said the Justice Secretary has also been instructed to nullify the Gazette that was issued on the Prohibition of Obscene Publications on December 24, 2021.
The Ministry further said that Minister Sabry has instructed for the amended bill to be resubmitted for Cabinet approval.
The bill will be introduced for the welfare of child abuse victims and to protect the privacy of women subject to harassment but not to curtail the freedom of expression, it added. (NewsWire)
The policy behind the Obscene Publications Act was mainly to afford greater protection to children-not to stifle the freedom of expression or be to be used as a tool to unfairly target anyone. To achieve that, more stakeholder consultation and amendments are needed #reformSL pic.twitter.com/xpqbnq9QHT
