Amidst the current vehicle import ban effective in Sri Lanka for the general public, a luxury SUV worth about Rs. 60 million has been imported and disembarked at the Hambantota port.
Pictures of this latest Toyota Land Cruiser SUV imported from Japan, surfaced in social media yesterday.
Customs officials confirmed that this vehicle was imported by the US embassy in Colombo under the duty free benefit applicable to diplomatic missions.
The custom officials further explained that the import duty of this vehicle would have been around Rs. 15 million and the current vehicle import restrictions do not apply to diplomats or embassies in the country. (NewsWire)
