Explosion reported in a house in Pannipitiya

An explosion has been reported from a house in the Kottawa area in Pannipitiya.

According to Ada Derana, the Kottawa Police stated that it is suspected that the explosion may have occurred due to a gas cylinder

The house has sustained severe damages due to the explosion that had occurred early this morning.

The Police said, however, no resident of the house had been injured in the incident.

“Around 04 am there was a loud noise. As we didn’t want to go out immediately, we opened our room door only a few minutes later. Then we realised that the gas cylinder had exploded and a sound was being emitted from it. Pieces of the roof were found scattered on the floor. It is definitely an explosion due to an issue with the gas cylinder. We are thankful that no one was awake and in that area at the time of the explosion,” a woman from the house explained.

A number of explosions due to gas cylinders have been reported from various parts of the country, this month alone.

On 04th November, a gas explosion was reported at a restaurant in the Kapparathota area in Weligama with three people being injured in the incident.

On 16th November, an explosion was reported at a restaurant in Ratnapura, while investigations had revealed that a gas explosion was the cause of the incident.

On 20th November, a gas explosion was reported at a restaurant at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo, with three people sustaining minor injuries in the incident. (NewsWire)
