Two suspects, including a 44-year-old former United States (US) Navy Officer, have been remanded for the possession of multiple weapons and Rs. 700,000 in cash.
The suspects were arrested on 30th October following a raid conducted by the Theldeniya Police on the Victoria Range Bungalow in Digana, Kandy.
The raid was conducted on a tip-off that high-powered motorcycles were being assembled at the bungalow.
The Police had seized multiple illegal weaponry, including 100 live bullets, a Rambo knife, telescopic site/scope, a firearm similar to that of an air rifle, 4 mini walkie talkies, 2 unregistered motorcycles, 4 registered motorcycles, 2 mobile phones, a number plate registered in the US, a passport, and Rs. 700,000 in cash during the raid.
One suspect has been identified as a 44-year-old Sri Lankan duel citizen who had served in the 143rd Squadron of the US Navy from 2004 – January 2021. The 143rd Squadron is reported a strike force within the US Armed Forces.
The other suspect had reportedly been deported from Canada under criminal charges.
The two suspects have been remanded till the 15th of November after being produced before the Theldeniya District Court. (NewsWire)
