Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harin Fernando has vowed to retire from politics at the age of 60, similar to that in the private and public sectors in Sri Lanka.
The 43-year-old MP handed over an affidavit in this regard to party leader MP Sajith Premadasa during the inauguration of the SJB head office in the Wattala electorate this morning.
MP Harin Fernando stated that he has decided to retire from politics at the age of 60 in order to pave the way for the younger generation to enter the political system.
“The retirement age in both the private and public sectors of Sri Lanka is 60 years. I firmly believe that the rationale behind the retirement age being 60 years in both sectors, is to give the younger generation opportunities to contribute to the development of the country and provide opportunities for new generations to formulate effective policies relevant to everchanging environments,” he said.
MP Fernando pointed that he firmly believes “as Politicians too, we must retire at a certain point of time after our effective contribution and service to the country, and pave the way for the younger generation to enter the political system to promote its development, which would then enable our Country to keep up with dynamic economic, social and political environments in the future.”
He added that therefore, he pledges to the people of the country, that he will serve the country as a politician only till he reaches the age of 60 years, at which age he will retire from politics to make way for the next generation to take the country forward. (NewsWire)
