Quarantine restrictions will have to be reimposed if there is a spike in Covid cases due to the irresponsible behaviour of the public, the health authorities warned today.
Addressing a media briefing held this morning, Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena appealed to the public to strictly adhere to the quarantine regulations.
“Despite an inter-province ban currently being in effect, many people were seen travelling on trips during the long weekend. Many of them were seen not wearing a face mask, which is the minimum requirement as per the health guidelines,” he said.
Dr. Gunawardena warned there will be an increase in Covid cases if the public is moving around without wearing face masks.
“Sri Lanka is still reporting between 500-600 Covid cases per day. But the public seems to have disregarded this,” he said.
The Director-General of Health Services further said if Covid cases increase, then the authorities will be forced to reimpose all quarantine measures due to the irresponsible actions of the public.
“Please do not drag the country into such a situation once again. Please try and wear at least a face mask when you are outdoors.,” he pleaded.
Dr. Asela Gunawardena emphasized that the public will be required to strictly adhere to the quarantine regulations at least until the end of December.
He further warned that there are possibilities for people who are fully vaccinated to get reinfected with the coronavirus. (NewsWire)
