Police seek public support to identify suspects who attacked fuel station employee

An employee of a fuel station in Meegoda has been assaulted for inquiring from a motorcyclist about not wearing a face mask while arriving to fill fuel.

The incident had occurred at a fuel station located on New Road in Meegoda this morning.

The employee of the fuel station had instructed the motorcyclist, who had arrived without a face mask, to wear a face mask.

Despite instructing the motorcyclist to do so and to maintain social distancing, the employee had pumped fuel, after which the motorcyclist leaves the fuel station.

However, the motorcyclist, who had reportedly gotten angry over the incident, returns with another individual and the two men thereafter assault the employee of the fuel station.

The two men are seen slamming the employee onto the ground, while they also assault another man who had intervened to prevent the men from assaulting the fuel station employee.

The incident has been captured on the CCTV camera installed at the fuel station.

The injured employee, who was admitted to the Padukka District Hospital following the incident, has been transferred to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila.

Meanwhile, the Meegoda Police has revealed that it is unable to identify the two men involved in the assault, and has sought the assistance of the public to apprehend the suspects.

Individuals with information on the suspects can inform the Officer-in-Charge of the Meegoda Police station, Chief Inspector Neville Fernando via the telephone number 0718 592 179. (NewsWire)
