29-year-old healthcare worker dies due to Covid-19

A 29-year-old driver attached to the 1990 Suwa Seriya -free ambulance service has died due to COVID-19.

He is the latest healthcare worker to die of coronavirus in Sri Lanka.

The deceased has been identified as Tharindu Sandaruwan Kumaranayake, a resident of Thorakolayaya, Middeniya.

He was employed at the Homagama Unit of the 1990 Suwa Seriya -free ambulance service at the time of his demise.

After falling ill due to a sudden heart ailment, he was admitted to the Embilipitiya District Hospital on Friday (01 October).

Tharindu was thereafter transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for further treatment and had once again been transferred to the Embilipitiya District Hospital.

However, he had died while receiving treatment at the Embilipitiya Hospital on Sunday (03 October).

A PCR test conducted following his demise had confirmed that he had contracted COVID-19. (NewsWire)
