3-year-old among victims of several road accidents

Five people, including a 3 ½-year-old child, have died in road accidents that were reported in the 24 hour period ending at 06 am today.

The Police said a 3 ½-year-old child had died after being hit by a tractor that was used to cut grass in the Serukele area in Pallama yesterday.

The child had died after being admitted to the Chilaw Hospital, while the father of the child has been arrested for operating the tractor at the time of the incident. 

A 67-year-old man had died after a tipper truck had collided with his motorcycle near the Sigiri Junction on the Habarana -Polonnaruwa road yesterday. 

The victim, who is a resident of Palugaswewa, had died after being admitted to the Dambulla Hospital. The driver of the tipper truck has been arrested for the accident. 

A 45-year-old man has died after a tipper truck crashed onto his motorcycle that was parked on the side of the road in the Pulawala area on the Maha-Oya- Batticaloa main road yesterday. 

The man, who is a member of the Civil Defence Force and a resident of Maha-Oya, had died after being admitted to the Maha-Oya Hospital. The driver of the tipper truck has been arrested in connection to the accident. 

A 72-year-old female pedestrian has died after being knocked down by a car in the Pattiya Junction along the Colombo- Kandy Road yesterday. 

The woman, who is a resident of Kelaniya, had died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. The driver of the car has been arrested for the accident. 

A 72-year-old man has died after losing control of his bicycle and crashing into a wall on Elliot Cross Road in the Galle Police Division last evening. 

The man, who is a resident of Elliot Cross Road, had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. (NewsWire)
