The Ministry of Youth and Sports has planned to launch a national youth program called “Hope for Youth’ targeting the total youth population of Sri Lanka between the ages of 15-29 which is 23.2% or around 5.6 million.
The programme will be launched to address the challenges faced by the youth and their aspirations, with the aim of actively involving these young people in the development process of the country.
The Government said the main objective of this program is to reduce the youth unemployment rate from the current 28% to 12%.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the proposal tabled by the Minister of Youth and Sports Namala Rajapaksa to replace the “Yowunpuraya” programme which was implemented until 2019 with the “Hope for Youth’.
The new programme will be implemented from 2021 targeting all Divisional Secretariats through the National Youth Services Council. (NewsWire)
