Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has condemned the Government’s decision to sell shares of the Yugadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya to a US company.
Issuing a statement, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya leader said the Government has taken the arbitrary decision of depriving the Yugadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya to the nation obstinately at its will.
He said the decision on the sale was made during a Cabinet Meeting that was held via Zoom technology at midnight recently.
MP Premadasa said, accordingly, New Fortress Energy Ltd. of the USA has confirmed that the legal agreement to undertake 40% shares of West Coast Power Company Ltd. of Yugadanavi power plant has been signed.
“This Government is out of its senses to the level of not understanding the fact that anybody who receives controlling power of energy in a small land will also receive power to manipulate that country’s governance,” he said.
The Opposition Leader said that, however, the general public in this country, including the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, will camp against this arbitrary conduct of the Government. (NewsWire)
