Justice Minister apologizes for victims, retired judge to investigate Lohan incident

The Government will appoint a retired judge to conduct an investigation into the recent incidents at the Welikada and Anuradhapura prisons, Minister of Justice Ali Sabry informed Parliament today.

State Minister Lohan Ratwatte was recently accused of forcefully entering the two prisons under the influence of alcohol and threatening two Tamil prisoners at the Anuradhapura prison with a firearm on 12th September.

Responding to questions raised in Parliament today on the incidents, Minister Ali Sabry condemned the incidents and said an independent probe will be conducted into the matter.

He further extended his apology to the Tamil prisoners who had allegedly been threatened by State Minister Lohan Ratwatte.

Following the incidents, Ratwatte had resigned from his portfolio of State Minister of Prison Managements and Prisoners Rehabilitation after taking responsibility of the two incidents. (NewsWire)
